Important Points regarding fixing of Marbles/ Granite
Polishing Methods for Marble & Natural Stone Floors
Explore the four primary techniques used to achieve a polished finish on natural stone surfaces.
๐ Diamond Grinding
Uses industrial-grade diamond abrasives in 3โ6 discs.
Mounted on a 175 rpm floor machine to grind the stone surface.
Removes scratches and evens out the surface.
Repeated with finer grits to achieve a mechanical shine.
Best for:
Heavily worn or scratched floors needing restoration.
๐งช Silicate Polishing (Crystallization)
Uses fluorosilicate chemicals sprayed onto the stone.
Buffed in with steel wool pads using a 175 rpm machine.
Creates heat and friction to form glassy crystals on the surface.
Best for:
Marble and calcium-based stones (not granite).
๐งด Compounds Buffing
Uses fine powders like aluminum or tin oxide mixed with water.
Buffed into the stone with a weighted machine and hogs hair pads.
Often enhanced with oxalic acid for a crystallization-like effect.
Best for:
Light restoration and shine enhancement.
๐ฏ๏ธ Wax Polishing (Barrier Coatings)
Applies wax, acrylic, urethane, or polymer coatings to the surface.
Applied using mop, roller, lambswool applicator, or sprayer.
Buffed with high-speed burnishing machines for shine.
Not recommended for:
Porous stones like limestone or travertine.
Best for:
Temporary shine in commercial settings.
๐ง Pro Tips
Severely damaged floors may require a combination of methods.
Choose method based on stone type, porosity, and condition.
Diamond grinding is the most durable but also the most expensive.
